i learned this practice at the ashram i resided at for 3 months in Thailand in 2019, as part of my 500hr yoga teacher training. we were assigned to give and receive this massage every morning as a way to prepare the body for 6 hours of physical yoga each day. needless to say, i’m eager to share 🙏🏼

matrix :: something within or from which something else originates, develops or takes form. interconnectedness to the whole. what we feel resourced by in everyday life.

in sessions, i typically begin by calling upon the inside person’s matrix of support. inviting them to name what it is they feel positive about, visualizing their matrix as a net to fall back upon. this could include any person, place, object, element, memory or event. asking them to notice the sensations in their body as they reflect.

in my matrix today and every day is:
^the rising+setting sun, mother earth/father sky
^water+rocks symbolizing family/heritage/ancestry
^international travel+play, nourishing the inner child
^eastern mysticism and philosophical influence
^my dad+fur child aka most important men in my life

each birth story is uniquely messy, beautiful and leaves an imprint on the little one. for life.

protecting the mother, the father and the baby’s entrance into this chaotic, sometimes scary world is the reason i am a doula. holding space when the veil is thinned for everyone involved. it’s as if you can feel Spirit entering the room, filling the void between this realm and another.

baby Giovanni effortlessly made his way earth side, ironically one month to the day that i lost my closest cousin to cancer. his mama championed through one of the smoothest births i have witnessed and it still felt hard at times.

the moment baby G was held up to see those carefully selected people he chose as parents, the biggest smile spread across his face. he knew he had arrived.

i tried my best to capture this moment in all its glory. it may look like he’s crying here, but that is in fact a great big smile that he wouldn’t let go. and look at his dad so lovingly admiring his mom.

crying, laughing. life and death. with death comes life. with laughs come happy cries. and everything in between 💙

this is the shala i practiced in for 88 days straight.

i spent 3 months fully immersing myself in traditional tantra yoga on the side of the world that it began.

my time on a tiny island in the gulf of thailand at shri kali ashram (now called tantra mela), infused my spirit with ancient wisdom and a practice that has the power to heal, transforming our minds and bodies on a subconscious level.

as we relax our whole self, we drop our conscious mind. in return we are gifted the opportunity to drop what we don’t need.
